Design Concept Statement
This look explores the transformation of discarded garments through reconstruction and recontextualization. Working within a midtone colour palette, an old denim jacket and shirt were deconstructed and reassembled to create a tactile, dimensional ensemble. The denim jacket is reworked with patchwork detailing and raw-edged appliqué, forming a visual dialogue between structure and disorder. The newly constructed skirt, cut from neutral-toned cotton, features exaggerated utilitarian pocketing and exposed raw seams that trace organic, asymmetrical lines around the body. Emphasising contrast in texture and weight, the design elevates the act of re-use, celebrating imperfection, fragmentation and the expressive potential of fabric beyond its original form.
